Matilda Auditions

Four Seasons Musical Theatre is excited to be holding auditions for our upcoming fall production of MATILDA.

Inspired by the book by Roald Dahl, MATILDA is a Tony Award-winning musical that celebrates the magic and mayhem of childhood, and the power of imagination. The show’s beautiful score is written by comedic genius Tim Minchin.

Brief descriptions of the roles are available below.

Show to mount mid November 2019.

Through the link schedule your one-hour time slot. Auditions will be held on June 19, 20, & 21 between 6-9 p.m., or June 22nd between 1-5 p.m. And will take place at the FSMT playhouse, located at 1500A Admirals Rd.

Please note: callbacks will be held on Sunday June 23rd from 10-6 p.m. While early dismissal is possible, actors who are requested for callbacks will likely be asked to stay for the duration of the day.

What to Prepare

Please arrive early and come prepared to dance in appropriate clothing. Please prepare 16-32 bars from a song that best showcases your vocal ability. If you’d like to use a song from the show, Director’s choice would be “When I grow up”

Please bring:

    • A copy of your acting resume (actors of all experience levels are welcome!)
    • A recent headshot/photo
    • A copy of your sheet music for the accompanist and a copy for yourself

A wide variety of child and adult roles are available. Actors with special skills (circus, dance and more) strongly encouraged to audition.  We seek diversity in our casting and welcome applications from all people, including members of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour) communities, gender-nonconforming and non-binary persons, and people with disabilities.

MATILDA – LEAD – MATILDA, appears 7-10 years old. Matilda loves to read and tell fantastical stories, and she has the gift of telekinesis. She is a strong singer and confident speaker.

BRUCE – BRUCE is one of Matilda’s classmates and appears 8-11. He is a large boy; he eats a slice of Miss Trunchbull’s chocolate cake and is punished by having to eat the whole cake in front of the class. BRUCE is a strong singer with a modern sound.

LAVENDER – LAVENDER appears 8-11 years old and is Matilda’s best friend. She is quirky and full of spunk. Must be a strong actor.

MICHAEL – MICHAEL doesn’t have many spoken lines, but he must have excellent stage presence.

CHILDREN’S ENSEMBLE – The children’s ensemble must be able to play roles between the ages 7-13 (stage age). They will play Matilda’s schoolmates, including some speaking roles.

MISS TRUNCHBULL – Male role (but dressed as a female). Baritone. A bullying headmistress of the school, who uses her former discipline as an Olympic hammer-throw champion to terrorize her ‘maggot’ students. Strong physicality.

MISS HONEY – Female. Mezzo-Soprano. A mild, charismatic woman who radiates kindness. She is Matilda’s teacher.

MRS WORMWOOD – Female. Mezzo-Soprano. Matilda’s mother. Obsessed with her amateur Ballroom dancing partner and her looks. Over-the-top personality. Must have a strong belt voice, and strong dance and comedic skills.

MR WORMWOOD – Male. Baritone. Matilda’s father. He works as a slimy second-hand car salesman. Strong comedic skills required.

RUDOLPHO – Male. Tenor. Mrs. Wormwood’s dance partner. Must have strong dance skills.

ADULT ENSEMBLE – Not your average ensemble. These characters will play a variety of roles including Doctors, Nurses, Henchman, Dads, Moms, an Acrobat, a Child Entertainer and more! Some members of the ensemble will also be asked to play multiple roles.
